Man on Earth

What's happening ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to another episode of Less than 5, the weekly new music show where I bring you, one killer band or artist from across the web that I feel you need to hear.

This week I am focusing on an amazing band out of New York City, I present, Man On Earth.

Man on earth is a 4 piece U.S. Band that is pushing through the music scene with a sense of style, passion and perseverance for years. They have released 3 CDs 'Disposable sounds for the fickle mind', 'the time spent wondering' and their latest album 'Things they'd never believe'.

Always on the road, putting on one awesome show after another, they have toured with some equally amazing bands such as Simple Plan, secondhand serenade and Perry Farrell. They have toured the country with a never ending tour and there doesn't seem to be any signs of stopping.

Check out this sample of their song, Venus.

Besides busting their asses on tour, they are the most active band when it comes to social media. They are always engaging their fans, replying to tweets and posts and keeping everyone in the loop. Honestly, I have not found a single other band that interacts as much as Man On Earth. And the fans approve. The fan base is ridiculous. These are devoted, hardcore fans all over the world. Literally, all over the world.

Recently, they just put out a brand new video for the tack 'We Shine On' hes a small sample!

Bottom line, this is a band full of amazing, kick ass people who know what it means to work hard. Check them out, buy the music, see them live and support them. The deserve it.

Thanks again for watching, don't forget to go and check out my previous videos, also hit my website more amazing bands you need to hear and I will see you all later.

Friday Top 5: Acoustic Songs

Howdy folks, so while I was debating what list to do for today, I got myself into a acoustic mood. Started listening to some killer songs on YouTube and thought, hey what the Hell, let's make a list outta this one. So, enjoy these songs pass them on to someone special and come back for more.

Just a heads up, eventually I will be moving this Friday over to YouTube as a weekly show dedicated to showcasing new music and bands that are not signed, and I feel need way more recognition in the industry. But, more on that later. For now, enjoy the list!

5. 'Lies' - Marina and the Diamonds

I seriously got a epic soft spot for this band. Her voice is amazing and the music reflects the vocals which in turn, reflects the emotions. It is amazingly awesome. If you are one of the few new to their music, welcome to the neighborhood. Please enjoy your stay.

4. 'Through the Glass' - Stone Sour

Quite possibly one of my all time favorite Stone Sour songs. This version is perfect. The video showcases Corey's personality and the instruments carry the songs so well. I am jealous. Yes, yes I am. Shut up. Don't judge me.

3. 'All I Want' - A Day To Remember

Really great song here. They pulled this off very well. I really don't know what else to say besides epic tune. Yeah, that pretty much covers it all.

2. 'February Air' - Lights

For the record, I hate spelling February. Really I do. It's like a hideous monster to me that I can't seem to get right any time. Seriously. Anyways, keeping in theme to my Song of the Day on Thursday, I bring back the most epic Canadian singer of epic kick ass-ness. This is my all time favorite track from her and if you get a chance, you must go buy her acoustic album. You will not regret it.

1. 'Built to Fall (Acoustic) - Trivium

I came across this while I was scanning and my jaw hit the ground. Not only an epic song, not only an epic singer but it's done on a roof top some where ridiculously cool. That scenery looks just awesome. I wanna go there. yeah. love this. That is all.

Happy hunting!

Song of the Day: Banner - Lights

One awesome shout out to a fellow Canadian. She is epicness and her songs kick serious ass. Yes, she is part of the ass kickers club. Enjoy.

"Banner" - Lights

Maybe it's bricks and mortar now, whether or not they run it down
I don't want anything to shake that shape away
No one told us which way to come, nobody mapped oblivion
So I go growing roses in the disarray
Just like most, falling head in
'Til my ghost fills the bed in
So lift it up like a banner
Hold it up over me
If this war is never ending
I'll take this love down with me
Like a banner
I don't need fate to give it time, it doesn't take pain to change your mind
No weapon can sever the soul from me
Not the sorceress, not the money
All my cleverness, all my cunning
So lift it up like a banner
Hold it up over me
If this war is never ending
I'll take this love down with me
Like a banner
It's around me in my surroundings
It counts me when it starts the counting
In the chaos there is a standard
I'm carrying it like a banner
So lift it up like a banner
Hold it up over me
If this war is never ending
I'll take this love down with me

Happy Hunting,

Song of the Day: Twisted and Wicked - Neverwake

Twisted and Wicked - NeverWake

Just when we thought we had control
It slipped right through our hands
We let our darker side unfold
How much can we stand?

We the black-hearted don't cooperate
I can the end and we have yet to desecrate
When we find a way we obliterate
This is how we live
This is how we make our fate

This is how it ends
We've turned so twisted and wicked again
Only by our hands
We live so twisted and wicked again

Can we ever see the light?
Can we learn from our mistakes?
Insecurities inside
Is how we break

So we shoot to kill and destroy the trust
Feed the beat inside that yearns for this internal lust
There is no escape, no running away
It's just another chance to roll the dice and play the game

This is how it ends
We've turned so twisted and wicked again
Only by our hands
We live so twisted and wicked again

Twisted and wicked again
Twisted and wicked again

This is how it ends
We've turned so twisted and wicked again
Only by our hands
We live so twisted and wicked again

Hello fellow music lovers! I have one awesome profile here today for an awesome band from the UK called Altered Sky. I first heard these rockers about a month ago and fell in love instantly. The sound is fun and exciting with tons of energy. Yet another in my growing profiles for female fronted bands, I highly encourage you to pick up the EP's and singles to hear and enjoy this amazing band.

Last week I was fortunate enough to get my quick Q&A sent out to them and they promptly replied. I was excited to see the responses and I think you all will enjoy this interview as much as I did.

For those who don't know, who are you, what do you do and how did you all come together?

Helloooo! We are Altered Sky – a rock band from Scotland, made up of two girls: Ana (vocals) and Amy (drums) and three guys: Rich and Neil (guitars) and Ross (bass). We started as a band in March 2010: initially as session players to rehearse and record some songs Ana had written. We had so much fun at the first rehearsal together that we formed as a band soon after, coming up with the name Altered Sky during a very drunk evening which involved watching The Wizard Of Oz on DVD in a caravan. We played our first show around a month later, and have been gigging as much as possible around the UK ever since.

Who are your main inspirations for your writing?

Video games! Mainly Final Fantasy and Silent Hill, the ones with really cool Japanese music. Also true crime stories and lots and lots of Sonic the Hedgehog!

What band would you love to tour with?

Oooooh lots and lots! We’d love to get involved with something like the Warped Tour one day! Watching the videos of the shows and the backstage shenanigans, it looks insane!

What is each members hidden talent?

Ana does an amazing impression of Gizmo from Gremlins! The wee song he sings, Ana can do it perfectly - it’s freaky! Neil’s stomach can inflate to consume massive amounts of fast food without him getting fat (we call his tray full of greasy burgers and things a Neil-Meal) Rich is a geologist by day: he gets to swing around on ropes and look at rocks. Amy can make a really loud clown horn noise (which is the BEST way of communicating at gigs) also ask Ross about his pumpkin impression!

What brands of instruments and mics do you play/use?

Ana: Sennheiser E950 – it’s soooo good to have my own mic on stage! I used to have to use a different one every night, so the sound was always different and I had to learn it as the set went on. The Sennheiser sounds good and I know what I need to do to get the best from it: I feel more comfortable using it, so can hopefully sing better!

Rich: Fender Telecaster Blacktop and Blackstar HT-Stage 100 – I love the versatility and sheer number of different noises I can get from the Blacktop! It copes beautifully with smooth clean tones right through to crunching distortion and solo lead lines. (It’s also a pretty shade of red!). The Blackstar head running into my ENGL cab is a mighty sounding combination: loud as hell and solid as a rock (also brutally heavy to lift up stairs). For effects I keep it pretty simple: just a Vox Time Machine for delay and a Boss CH-1 Chorus. The one thing I can’t gig without is my earplugs – I take them everywhere with me!

Neil: The Marshall JCM900 and Gibson Les Paul combination is a tried and tested rock classic! I keep my gear as simple as possible, being a guitar tech I spent some time modding the lester to allow me to get Strat sounds as well, beyond that it’s pretty much Guitar into amp. Minimal effects, Boss DD-3 Delay, CH-1 Chorus and an absolutely brilliant pedal called the MXR Micro-Amp which I use for a solo boost. I do use my Cry-Baby Classic Wah from time to time and keep a Metal Muff distortion handy in case the Amp breaks down.

Ross: Yamaha RBX JM - a completely excessive 6-string monster! It has such a smooth tone one minute then a crunching top-end punch the next. I use Hartke amps – they deliver the ultimate punch and clarity that lends me the tone I desire, plus my 4x10”+1x12” stack is almost as tall as me! (Ross is 6’4”!)

Amy: Mapex shells and Zildjian cymbals. My Mapex kit was the first I ever bought and I’m still in love with it! Zildjian have made the best cymbals in the world forever and so many great drummers have used them. They’re also really shiny! I use a Mapex Black Panther snare and I also use Vic Firth sticks: in my opinion they’re the best weighted sticks out there and I swear by them!

What was the greatest show you ever played up to this point?

The best show so far is probably the one we played at the HMV Picturehouse in Edinburgh in September supporting a band called Lost In Audio. It was by far the largest show we’ve played so far: to a crowd of around 900 people. The loudness of everyone in the crowd was incredible! We were really spurred on to play better and also to enjoy ourselves and bring more energy to our performance. There were loads of photos taken that night - in virtually all of them at least one of us (usually Rich) has a big cheesy grin on their face!

When are we getting new music? New videos?

Soooon! Two new videos for songs on the In This World EP are in the pipeline and we’re also hard at work in the studio writing and recording demos for a new release which will be unleashed sometime in the new year! If you want a sneaky peek at the new songs, come to a show: we love testing new songs out on a live audience!

Social Media like twitter, plays such a huge part in spreading the word of a band, you guys are fast approaching 10,000 twitter followers. If you could say one thing to them all in 140 characters or less, what would you say?

“Thank you ALL so much for your support! Wherever you are in the world, we WILL come and see you on tour one day and thank you in person! <3”

(yes it’s a REALLY soppy 139 characters, but it’s true!)

Why should people pick up an Altered Sky album?

IT’S GOT A GIANT GOBSTOPPER ON THE FRONT!!! If that’s not reason enough, we don’t know what is… It also contains a CD with five songs that we’re really proud of: Each showing something different about what we do. There’s a wide range of styles on the EP - from the clean ballad Shining White Star to the hard rocking title track In This World. There’s also wee hints of pop-punk and prog thrown in there as well! Hopefully you’ll have a listen and enjoy the songs… they’re just a gobstopperry taster of what we’ve got coming next!

This is the spot to plug anything and everything you got going on!

We're going on tour this month!! Second UK tour to date and we can't wait. We also have a new video coming out very soon (which we haven't actually announced yet). Find the dates at www.alteredsky.com/tour, hope you can make it to a show near you!

So to sum it all up, this band seems like epic people. Please support the band, pick up the album, pass them along to friends, go watch the music videos and if you're near any city they're playing in, stop by say hi, tell them Chitty B sent ya and enjoy the show!

Song of the Day: Pardon Me - Incubus

Another song in my all time favorites. My life's soundtrack if you will. Fantastic song, great lyrics and catchy. Overall, a perfect song. Enjoy!

"Pardon Me"

Pardon me while I burst
Pardon me while I burst
A decade ago, I never thought I would be.
A twenty three on the verge of spontaneous combustion. Woe-is-me
But I guess that it comes with the territory.
An ominous landscape of never-ending calamity.
I need you to hear. I need you to see.
That I have had all I can take
And exploding seems like a definite possibility
To me
So Pardon me while I burst into flames.
I've had enough of the world, and its people's mindless games
So Pardon me while I burn, and rise above the flame
Pardon me, pardon me. I'll never be the same.
Not, two days ago I was having a look in a book
And I saw a picture of a guy fried up above his knees
I said I can relate
Cause lately I've been thinking of combustication as a welcomed vacation from.
The burdens of the planet earth, like gravity, hypocrisy, and the perils of being in 3-D...
And thinking so much differently.
Pardon me while I burst into flames.
I've had enough of the world, and it's people's mindless games
Pardon me while I burn, and rise above the flame
Pardon me, pardon me. I'll never be the same.
Never be the same...yeah.
Pardon me while I burst into flames.
Pardon me, pardon me, pardon me.
So pardon me while I burst into flames.
I've had enough of the world, and it's people's mindless games
So pardon me while I burn, and rise above the flame
Pardon me, pardon me. I'll never be the same.
Pardon me, never be the same. Yeah

Flux Top 10: Songs to strip to

Another fantastic week comes to a end, and what better way to close it out then to post a killer Top 10 list! A awesome twitter friend gave me the idea for this list and I think it's going to be a fantastic list. Something everyone needs. Now again, this is a list geared more towards the hard rock/metal crowd, so don't go expecting too many pop style songs in this list. That's not how I do. Haha

Remember, it's not about the lyrics, or the video  it's about the over all sound and feel of the song. That's what makes a song a great stripping tune. If you're looking to seduce, get freaky or just have fun with your mate, here is a list of 10 songs to get sexy and do a striptease to. Sit back, enjoy and just feel it all.

10. Halestorm - Familiar Taste of Poison

This song was given to me for the list, and I agree. It has a a solid slow beat that screams sexiness and the vocals match it perfectly. Definitely a great song for setting the mood. Oh yeah.

9. CKY - Rio Bravo

Another suggestion for the list. A fantastic dark, sexy song to get naked to. I agree with this choice. Solid drum line and a catchy guitar riff. Crank it up and let your freak flag fly!

8. Killswitch Engage - The End of Heartache

As we start moving into the faster tempo songs, we arrive at The End of Heartache. Let's not deny here, Howard Jones has one hell of a sexy voice. I mean damn. The overall feel of the song is sultry and sexy yet hard and aggressive. Yes, it works well.

7. The White Stripes - Seven Nation Army

So besides the fact that this song's video trips me the hell out every time I watch it, (seriously, I think I had a seizure while writing this) That bass line alone screams awesome striptease music. no lies.

6. Stone Temple Pilots - Plush

Just try to listen to this song without doing a slow headbang. That's how easy it is to move to this song! I'm telling you this is a must have!!! Can't help but sing along to it though. That might or might not ruin the mood. All depends on the guy/girl you're with I guess.

5. Flyleaf - Fully Alive

This has the perfect bad girl striptease sound. Very much so, oh yes. Great tune. Does a fantastic job of slowing down, and speeding up. Works so well for this list.

4. Finger Eleven - First Time

One amazing song that I have loved for many years now. I feel this song fits into this category well. it's got a nice slow grind feel to it with nice places where it picks up. Yes, I can totally see it now. Booya.

3. City and Colour - Comin' Home

One of those slow jams that when you're doing a very sexy, seducing slow tease you wanna rock to. Just perfect for that love in your life. Also a killer band, not gonna lie about that.

2. Nine Inch Nails - Starsuckers Inc.

First off, yes, I know the actual title of the song, but since the video above is titled 'Suckers" I might as well stick with it. Originally I was going to put Closer as this number in the list, but, since I had added that in my list of songs to get busy to, I decided to be a little bit more original. This works anyways. Hard fast dance. YEAH!

1. American Head Charge - Just So You Know

One of my all time favorite songs. I'm choosing this one mainly because I love the song and it's got an aggressiveness that isn't in many songs on this list. It's perfect for the top of the list all!

Hope you enjoyed it, don't forget to check out the other lists I've done and look around, enjoy your self. I'll see you all again next week. Don't forget to check back daily for the song of the day!

4. The Show

Now one would expect with such a name as The Show, they would have one hell of an awesome life performance  and from everything I can see and find, (being from Canada, it's fairly difficult for me to make a live show for The Show.) they kick ass! Thus, I welcome them to the illustrious halls of Chitty's List! Woot!!

3. Ideal Zero

Another amazing female fronted band. Love. Love. Love. This is an amazing acoustic song here and I think you will all dig it. If you don't, then go away. I don't want you in my presence. Nah, I'm kidding. Come back. Don't be like that. Geez.

2. Kingsfoil

Easily made it on the list. Kingsfoil is amazing music. I just dig it. Catchy, classic and fun. These are the kinds of peoples I wanna get drunk with and end up in jail some where around Vegas wondering what happened and why I have a pet skunk. I'll name him Smiley.

1. Eye Empire

I first got introduced to Eye Empire by Shatterline (Click here) and I instantly was hooked. These guys are beyond amazing and they need to b e heard by everyone. Pass them on to at least 3 people a day. I mean it. Or else.

Song of the Day: Roads Untraveled - Linkin Park

This is my sons current favorite song. It's a great one too. It's just cute as hell to watch him sing along. Epicness.

"Roads Untraveled" - Linkin Park

Weep not for roads untraveled
Weep not for paths left alone
'Cause beyond every bend
Is a long blinding end
It's the worst kind of pain
I've known

Give up your heart left broken
And let that mistake pass on
'Cause the love that you lost
Wasn't worth what it cost
And in time you'll be glad it's gone

Woah-oo-oh-oh
Woah-oo-ohh
Woah-oo-oh-oh
Woah-oo-ohh

Weep not for roads untraveled
Weep not for sights unseen
May your love never end
And if you need a friend
There's a seat here alongside me

Woah-oo-oh-oh
Woah-oo-ohh
Woah-oo-oh-oh
Woah-oo-ohh

Song of the Day: Let it Be - The Beatles

Going way back for this one. Such an amazing song. Not much can compete with this one. I'm not gonna lie here. Enjoy folks.

"Let It Be" - The Beatles

When I find myself in times of trouble
Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be
And in my hour of darkness
She is standing right in front of me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be
Let it be, let it be
Let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be

And when the broken hearted people
Living in the world agree
There will be an answer, let it be
For though they may be parted
There is still a chance that they will see
There will be an answer, let it be
Let it be, let it be
Let it be, let it be
Yeah there will be an answer, let it be
Let it be, let it be
Let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be

Let it be, let it be
Ah let it be, yeah let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be
And when the night is cloudy
There is still a light that shines on me
Shine on until tomorrow, let it be
I wake up to the sound of music,
Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be
Yeah let it be, let it be
Let it be, yeah let it be
Oh there will be an answer, let it be
Let it be, let it be
Let it be, yeah let it be
Oh there will be an answer, let it be
Let it be, let it be
Ah let it be, yeah let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be

Happy hunting.
